Page 2 of 7 To get back on track I want to make you aware of a vital mistake that is bestowed upon us at a young age when we are taught to lookup to famous people and they become our idols. Idolizing is one of the most dangerous things that anyone could do on the road to becoming famous. When you idolize someone they seem to be beyond your reach and you begin thinking that we can never be where they are. It is human nature to start loosing self confidence and morale when we idolize. The psychological effect of this makes us think that they are a class apart and we wouldn't have a chance to be in a similar situation. Just remember this one thing that Nelson Mandela rightly pointed out that greatness is not in just some of us, it is in all of us. You need to realize that not everyone had their fame handed to them on a silver platter. Take a look at one of my favorite actors in the movie world. Edward Norton is one of the worlds finest actors today, Born on August 1969 he won the Oscar nomination for his role of an altar boy accused of murder in “Primal Fear”. He went on to deliver a more than stellar performance in the role as a Neo-Nazi in “American history X”. Edward is the grandson of the famous architect James Rouse and was brought up in Maryland. The one thing that really stands out about this guy, is that he didn't drop college for acting. He worked hard and is a successful graduate from the prestigious Yale University. Have you ever heard of Rosa Parks. She was famous for her civil right activism, and was just an ordinary everyday person like you and me. Just like every famous person ever born she had to take small steps that were strong and determined. It was the total accumulation of her small strides that led her to reach her goals which gave her fame. Today she is a well respected leader. Through dedication and focus she found greatness, which we can also obtain. It just takes one small step at a time, little by little. One of my teachers ,Mrs. Harris used to say “Slowly But Surely”. Remember your first, second and third step is just as important as the last. I'd be lying to you if i denied that some people do have contacts that make their break into the film industry and others. Despite this the importance of passion, commitment and perseverance cannot be denied. For example Gwyneth Paltrow's mom Blythe has been a stage and film actress and here father Bruce is a famous producer. Steven Spielberg was even a family friend. But the reason she won an Oscar for her role in “Shakesphere in Love” was her hard work and dedication. Her success story is very well known through out the world. In here words to get successful you have to do that thing which you like doing and do it with full passion. Don't forget that there is a fine line between role models and idolizing someone. It is important to your success in order to keep your momentum. It is a emotional roller coaster that could send you spinning wildly in all directions. You need people to lookup to in order to stay motivated and inspired, but DO NOT make them seem unattainable or you will travel blinded by the psychological effects of idolizing. Look at your role models achievements, but don't forget about what they had to sacrifice in order to get there.
